Annie Genell (TOOTS) White

Annie’s Journey of Life

 

Annie Genell White was born on December 30, 1941 to parentage of Woody White and Lena Carter-White in Smithville, Texas. Annie was the second child born. She was educated at Smithville Colored School. After Smithville Colored School burned down in 1956 a new school was built. Where Annie was a graduate of Mary A. Brown High School, Class of 1960, Professor Sherrill Moore, Sr. was the Principal. Annie attended and graduated from Sweatt’s Beauty School in May 1961 in Tyler, Texas.

 

Annie accepted Christ at the early age of 12 and was baptized at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. In 1963 Annie married Charles Clint Davis to this union one child was born Darrell Charles White. She later married Henry McBride, there were no children born during this union.

 

After completing beauty school, Annie was a hair stylist working from her home. She then changed her career path and went to work at The Jewel Restaurant Motel and The Barn Door. Annie went to work for the Smithville Towers Nursing Home as one of the Head Cooks for 15 years. After her journey working for the Towers she was one of the head cooks for the Smithville Science Park. In 1980 she followed her dream to open her very own Hamburger business as “Toots Burgers”. People drove from miles around just to get a Toots burgers until her health began to fail. In between her burger business she did house cleaning and babysitting the love of her life, her granddaughter Christine and adopted grandbabies Kyle Stovall, Davina & Desirae Davis, Brandon & Kimberly Whalon and Brieon Brown. Annie was very passionate about BINGO. She never missed a bingo night no matter what location or city it was held, she was going. If she had company everyone was going to bingo. She loved her bingo! She  was a strong part of the American Legion Post 533 in Bastrop, TX and traveled to all annual conferences and meetings.

 

She is preceded in death by Son-Darrell White; Parents-Woody & Lena White; her older Brother; Grandparents-Ester Henry Carter & Anna Phillips Carter; Grandmother-Mandy Miller; Aunts-Elnora Tolbert, Louise McQueen, Janie Carter & Mary Lee Rogers.

 

Annie leaves to cherish her precious memories, her Granddaughter Christine Ann White (Derrick). A special cousin like her sister Abby Greene. Special nephew James Nealy (Twola) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
