John L. Veal was born in Bastrop County, Texas on January 27, 1932 to Sam and Laura Veal. He was the fourth oldest of seven children.
At an early age, John accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized and united at Antioch Baptist Church. Later in life, he joined Mount Rose Baptist Church in Bastrop, Texas.
As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for four years. After his service in the military, John moved to Saginaw, Michigan. There he was employed in manufacturing with General Motors where he retired after nearly forty years.
In order to be closer to his family, he returned to Bastrop, Texas in early 2000. Family was extremely important to John and he dedicated copious amounts of time bonding with his family. He wanted to make sure family was connected with family. In his spare time he loved to travel. There wasn’t a road he couldn't tell you how to get to. One of his last road trips was with his granddaughter to Michigan.
John also was an avid car enthusiast. He went to car shows, was a part of a local car club, and acquired as many cars as he could. He also enjoyed playing dominoes at family gatherings.
John departed this life on Friday, December 23, 2016 in Bastrop, Texas. He is preceded in death by both parents; three brothers: Curtis, Edward Sr. and Sam Jr.; and two sisters: Virginia and Joyce.
He leaves to cherish memories, his wife Ruby Glasco Veal of Bastrop, Texas; two children: Sandra Veal Limuel (Darrell) of Round Rock, TX and John Veal Jr. (Jaime) of Milwaukee, WI; one brother, Felix Veal (Mozell); six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
