Kirk Martin

June 22, 1946 ~ May 15, 2017 (age 70) 70 Years Old


Lieutenant-Colonel Kirk Martin passed away after a long illness on May 15, 2017. He  was born June 22,1946 in Columbus, Ohio to William Ramsey Martin and Wanda Lee Kirk.

 

Kirk's long and valorous Military career began early when in 1963 he enlisted as a reservist in the U.S. Navy.  His military career included two tours of duty in Viet Nam  including as the aircraft commander of a UH-1 Helicopter ; Company A/501st  Aviation  Battalion, "Rattlers" - "Firebirds", call sign Rattler 12.

 

Kirk received many commendations for his dedication and his bravery during his career, including  a purple heart .

 

He retired in May 2005, with full honors, and began his retirement in Smithville, Texas where he served his community with the same dedication and attention to detail that he displayed during his career.

The discipline and patriotism that he learned in the service never left him , as his friends and family will attest.

 

He is survived by his loving wife,"Sam",son Zach, daughter-in-law Olivia, and granddaughter Cadence. Brother Michael Martin, nephew Nick Martin, Niece Deb Chemesky.

 

A memorial service will be held on June 17, 2017 at the American Legion Hall, 45 American Legion Road, Smithville, Texas from 1:00 p.m. till 3:00 p.m.
