Plonie Irene Haywood Black

1936-2017

Plonie Irene Haywood Black, 80, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2017.  She was born December 3, 1936 to Neil Haywood and Cora Dean Lemuel Haywood in Bastrop County, TX.

Plonie who was known by her family and close friends as Irene, professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Zion Hill Church of God in Christ (COGIC)

Irene attended school at Sweet Hill Rural School in Upton, TX.

Irene was married to Joe Childs and later married Clifford Black.  Although she never had any children of her own, she loved children and cared for many. She also had a heart for the elderly and loved taking care of them.

She loved to travel and lived for a while in Corpus Christi, Texas as well as in California.

Irene worked at Smithville Hospital in Smithville, TX for many years. She loved working with her hands, planting a garden and planting and tending to her shrubbery. She also loved raising chickens.

Irene was never idle.  When she wasn’t caring for someone or working in her yard, you could find her sewing and crocheting.  She made many Afghans which she would sell or give away.

Irene later had an interest in antiques and became an antique dealer.  She would refurbish old furniture and had a lot of patience with doing this.

Irene loved people and knew most of her neighbors.

Irene had a love for the Lord and talked about Him to many. She loved reading and teaching the   Bible.  She shared the love of Jesus with many in her home.  She did this until her health started to fail.

Irene spent the last few years of her life at Bastrop Nursing Home where many knew of her love for people and the Lord.  When she was able, she was always helpful and made up her own bed. She participated in the praise service where she would sing along.

Irene life was full and she met a lot of people along the way.  She is preceded in death by both of her parents, her sister, Mae Lee Goree, and a half-brother.

Irene leaves to cherish her memory, a half-brother, Anthony White, niece, Aravia White as well as a host of cousins and friends.
