Sylvia Jean Tarver, age 82 of Bastrop passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Saint David’s Medical Center in Austin. She born on April 16, 1934 in Bastrop to Hamp Henry & Isabella (Gage) Tarver. Ms. Tarver was a licensed vocational nurse at Brackenridge Hospital and retired after 25 years in June of 1994. She was also a faithful member of the Macedonia First Baptist Church where she served in many capacities until her health failed. She is preceded in death by her parents, maternal grandparents; Lovis Gage, Henry A. & Mary Bell Calton, paternal grandparents, one son; Michael C. Tarver, one brother; Robert (Lavo) Shelton, and other family members. Survivors include five daughters; Dorothy J. (the late Geoffrey) Wills of Austin, Linda F. (T.C.,Jr.) DeShay of Bastrop, Wanda L. (Melvin) Davis of Manor, Rose J. (James) Moore of Bastrop, Erica M. (Nathaniel) Blaylock of Bastrop, one son; Eric R. (Dawn) Tarver of Beeville, one brother; Norman Tarver of Bastrop, special brother; Sherman Green of Bastrop, four sisters; Mary A. Wallace-Scott, Etta Madison, Alice Waites of Bastrop, and Melvin Charles Johnson of Austin, one sister-in-law; Elle Aldridge of Bastrop, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23rd from 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at Gipson-Pendergrass People’s Mortuary in Smithville. Homegoing celebration services will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 11:00a.m. at Providence District Association Tabernacle in Cedar Creek with Rev. C.A. Williams, officiating, and her son Rev. Eric R. Tarver delivering the celebration message. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop.
