Charles McDonald Obituary

Charles Clinton McDonald was born 98 years ago on a Wednesday May 18, 1921.  He was born to the proud parents Callie McDonald and Ellen Frazier McDonald in Smithville, Texas.  He was a typical young boy growing up.  Running and playing, doing his chores around the house and whatever he was told to do. When Clint was of school age at 6 years old, he entered first grade at The Rosenwald School called Hopewell in Cedar Park.  Later transferred to the Smithville Colored High School.  While in school he was a top athlete in football, track and basketball.  He met a beautiful young lady Velma Thompson in those years.  She would soon be his wife.  Mr. McDonald graduated from high school May 12, 1942.  After graduation it wasn’t long before he married his love, Velma Thompson.

The year is 1943 January 2nd, Clint enlisted into the Army, Ft. Sam Houston.  He had to leave his wife to tearfully wait for his return.  Clint entered active duty January 10, 1943.  It was WWII that Clint fought along side all the rest of the soldiers in that frightening war.  Although it was hard with fearful tragedy all around him, Private First Class made it through those 3 years without a scratch on him.  He separated from service January 15, 1946 with an honorable discharge from Ft. Bliss, Texas.  He received two medals and two ribbons and his occupation was an electrician.

After completing his term in the armed forces, he made his way back home to start the next chapter in his life.  Clint and Velma started a family that produced fifteen children.  Clint was a hard working man.  He was a humanitarian. He took good care of his children and everyone else that needed help.  He was always ready to help.  When his wife passed, he blessed us with our step mother Beauty Jean Rogers.  What a blessing she was.  She blessed us with 2 step-brothers; Carl Preston and Sherman Ray.
