Ruthie Mae Houston Brown was born on July 30, 1952 in Bastrop, Texas to Sam and Anna Mable Houston. She is the mother of Rugn Everett Houston, the love of her life. She attended school in Bastrop, Texas and later Huston Tillotson University, graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice. From there she spent several years in Austin, Texas and eventually moved to Houston, Texas where she worked for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. She took great pride wearing her uniform. She married the late Charles E. Brown. She parented Armann Brown and Charles Brown Jr. She went on to be a successful entrepreneur in the Greater Houston Area after she left the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. She travelled extensively during those years and was an avid sports enthusiast holding season tickets for the Rockets and Oilers. She lived a full and exciting life in the years that God shared her with us.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Anna Mable Houston, three sisters, Mamie L. Houston, Sally M. Williams and Johnnie M. Howard and three brothers, Sam Houston, Jr., J.H. Houston and Marvin R. Houston.
She leaves to mourn her passing her loving son; Rugn Everett Houston, step-sons; Armann Brown and Charles Brown, Jr., five sisters and one brother; Ora J. Rance, Henrietta Faykus, Ella L. Lockridge (Willie), Delorice F. Franks (Hiawatha), Arlene Akins (Darnell) and Willard L. Houston and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and many friends, who will miss her and her incredible smile dearly.
