Alberta Martin Obituary

Alberta Deary Martin was born to the late Charles and Jessie Mae Deary. She was the third of 9 siblings. Five which precede her in death: Jessie, Pem·lie, Will, Ida, John, half brother C.D. Deary and half sister Lillie Mae Deary Cephus.

Alberta began her education at Mary A. Brown Community School and Smithville High School.

Sister Martin received Christ at a early age, joined and was baptized at Colorado Missionary Baptist Church.

Then came love in her life she meet and married James A. Martin Sr. from Peach Creek and to the union four children were born Helen, Lillie, James Jr. and Ronnie, who precedes her in death.

In 1961 they sought a better life and moved to California. There they first lived in Parris, Later moving to Los Angeles to Compton, California. There they settled joined New Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Jasper Lee Tucker. Sister Martin served in her church she was the President of the Usher Board for many years and later became the secretary of the church. She loved her family and was willing to help in anyway she could. She often spoke of the good time they would have at Sunday service, church picnics, fellowship and traveling with friends.

Sister Martin chose a career in the healthcare and cared for a couple until their health failed them. Later she decided to change careers and began working for Collins Cleaners. There she learn many skills which lead to her entrepreneurship. She then opened her own business Aunt B’s Drapery. She enjoyed her work but later had to resign to care for her husband when he took ill. She cared for him until his death did them part. Afterwards she moved to Texas and spent time with her mother until her death.

Later she decided she would attend Bible College in Welder, TX where she graduated with good grades. Later in 2007 she was faced with death but God brought her through with the Love and Care of her niece Missy whom she lived with at the time. She later moved to Dallas,TX and her health took a turn and started to decline until her death.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three children Helen Moore of Dallas,TX, Lillie Martin of Long Beach, CA, and Ronnie Martin of Las Vegas, NV; stepson Christopher Martin Long Beach, CA, stepdaughter Janelle Martin (Proceed in Death); 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren – all of Los Angeles, CA; One brother Robert Deary (Bertha); two sisters Shane (Stella) Deary of Smithville, TX Eula Mae Jones of Austin, TX; brother-in-law LaSelle Martin (Claudia) of San Antonio, TX.
