Bernadette McMorris Obituary

Bernadette Maurice Penn McMorris was born October 14, 1952, in   Houston, Texas to the late Bernard Penn and Arrie Pearl Anderson   Penn. She was the second of six children. Three who have preceded  her in death, are Connie Gibson, Mary Andrews, and Fred Penn. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. In the early 60's, she  attended schools in Bastrop, TX, and later in 1 67 moved to Houston, TX. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1970 and furthered her education at Texas Southern University. She later married and moved to Kansas City, KS. She was the mother of the late Nicole Renee McMorris and grandmother to Desiree Renee

 

Thompson and Denzel Lee Pope. Around 1993, she moved back to Bastrop, where she lived until her transition.

During her l ife, she worked as a factory worker, dental technician, bus driver, and various jobs in between. Bernadette was a very fun  and outgoing lady. She was always active with various community services within the Bastrop community such as early involvement  with Bastrop MLK Scholarship Committee, Bastrop Juneteenth Committee, Bastrop County Democratic Party, and Bastrop County  MLK Holiday Commission. She was also a lay reader and served as  a member of Ladies of Charity with her mother at Ascension  Catholic Church.

She loved her family and her grandchildren Desiree and Denzel and her great—grandchildren, Jeremiah, Alec, and Alay'iah. She willl be remembered for her humor, fashion, family gatherings, always taking care of a stray dog or cat, taking on anyone's sickness as if it were her own, and her love for angels and crosses. She was. proud to be the firs grandmother amongst her siblings.

She departed this life Wednesday, August 10, 2022, leaving to mourn her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two sister Angela Michelle Hodrick (Leon) of Houston, TX, and Cynthia Annette Penn of Bastrop, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
