Emelio G. Salinas Jr. "Papalo"

Emelio G. Salinas “ Papalo” has been laid to rest on September 4, 2022 at the age of 88. Emelio is survived by his three children, Emelio G. Salinas III, Sally Salinas Lopez and Larry Salinas & wife Tina Salinas with 12 grand-children, three great grand-children. Along with his brother Frank Salinas, two sisters Maria Suarez & Elojia Sanchez and Aunt Maria Rogers and many nieces, nephews great- great -nieces, nephews and cousins.

Emelio was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Being deaf he attended school in Austin, Texas at The Texas School for the deaf where he excelled in sports being named an All American in football, basketball and baseball. As an avid sports enthusiast not only did he play sports but he loved to watch them too. He never missed a Spurs game, Could talk about the Longhorns all day and watched football every Sunday, especially the Cowboys games.

Outside of sports Papalo was a family man who taught his children how to fish & hunt.

Papalo was employed at Kelly AFB for 22 yrs.as a sandblaster before retiring and enjoying his family. Papalo always loved going to family gatherings where all the children knew how to ask for a dollar in sign language. This would always make his face light up seeing them try.

Another pass time favorite would be family trips to the casinos where he would always say “He put a quarter in and won a bucket of change”. Papalo had a sweet tooth. He loved Empanada with coffee, Cajeta lollipops and chocolates. You could catch him with something in his mouth all the time.
