Felix Veal Obituary

Felix Milton Veal entered eternal rest on Saturday May 14, 2022- it was a very sunny day outside, but such a cloudy day inside his home. He was the youngest child born to Laura Owen- Veal and Sam Veal, Sr. on March 24, 1942 in Bastrop, Texas. His parents, six siblings, and son Anthony Hardeman predeceased him.

His Christian walk began at an early age as a Junior Deacon at Antioch Baptist Church. His Faith grew through the years and never dimmed his Belief in a Greater Power that directs our lives.

Felix graduated from Bastrop Emile High School in 1961. He enrolled in Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1965. He earned a Master of Arts Degree- College of Education- Michigan State University- Eat Lansing, Michigan and Advanced Certification in Education Administration at Western Michigan University- Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was a public school teacher and administrator for over 40 years.

In 1965 Felix began his teaching career in Saginaw, Michigan as a kindergarten teacher- image a 6’6”/ 225 lb. man standing over your 5 year old…he absolutely adored that class and the students loved him. After 3 years of wiping noses and sitting on the floor with Kindergarteners, Felix decided to move to the “big leagues” and take on high school students. This age range was truly his calling. He taught English Literature/ Grammar and Mathematics. He was Athletics Director for the District and a scout for the Michigan State University Basketball program.

In 1972, the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League invited Felix to participate / tryout for the team at their training facilities in St. Louis MO. However, a collision between a Harley Davidson 1200cc motorcycle (on which he was riding) and the brick pavement interrupted that dream. The next 3-5 years following that motorcycle accident left Felix in the hospital and the doctors trying desperately to save his right leg that had split down the center as gasoline from the motorcycle gas tank poured into the wound.

Eventually, Felix was able to return to the profession he loved. His career path would lead him to secondary public school principal ships and to the pricipalships of the United Auto Workers (UAW) - General Motors (GM) Consortium in Michigan.

Felix was a proud member of the Saginaw Alumni Chapter of Alpha Psi Fraternity, INC. He was a steadfast member of the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church as Trustee/ Treasurer in Saginaw, Michigan.

He loved being supportive of family and friends. Felix relished those times when he could golf, play dominoes, Bid Whist and poker (oh well, there goes the rent) with the guys.

Upon his retirement from teaching, he and Mozell moved back home to Texas into the Austin/ Round Rock area. Felix was employed at MCI/Sprint in tele-marketing and as a spokesperson for MCI/Sprint commercials.

Felix joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Austin, Texas under pastor ship of Rev. Dr. G.V. Clark. He and Pastor Clark spoke frequently exchanging words of Faith and encouragement.

Felix was a devoted husband and father. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory: Mozell Perkins Veal- wife of 56 years, son Michael Veal and wife Michelle of Downers Grove, IL; daughter Felecia Veal- Edmunds and husband Ferrell of Danville, VA; daughter in law Carrie Hardemen of Austin, Texas (wife of deceased son Anthony Hardeman); grandsons Trey Edmunds and wife Jameice of Charlotte, NC; Terrell Edmunds of Pittsburg, PA; Tremaine Edmunds of Buffalo, NY; Seth Michael Veal of Downers Grove, IL; AJ Hardeman, Trevor Hardeman and Michael Hardeman of Austin, Tx.
