Joseph Bryson Copeland, Jr. Joseph Bryson Copeland, Jr. died September 8, in Smithville, Texas after an extended illness. He was 80 years old. Mr. Copeland was born March 24, 1939 in San Antonio to Dr. Joseph Bryson Copeland, Sr. and Gladys Ware Copeland. He attended Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA, graduated from Keystone School in San Antonio and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He served in the U.S. Army as an enlisted man and was a member of the W.J. Nixon Masonic Lodge 421 in Smithville. During his lifetime he held a variety of jobs ranging from selling airplane parts to auto sales to truck driver and pace car driver. Mr. Copeland was known to his friends as a genial person with an enduring love of barbecue. For a time he had a mobile cooker that he towed to competitions throughout the area and much enjoyed the companionship. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Preston Copeland of Victoria, TX; a sister, Kay Copeland McNamara, of Mill Valley, CA and a daughter, Amy Janelle Copeland of Austin. TX. He was pre-deceased by a son, Joseph Bryson Copeland , III of Austin, Texas. Private burial services were held in Smithville, Texas.
