Michael “Mike” Jones was born on March 18, 1965 to Ponie
and Pauline Jones. He was seventh child of nine siblings. He
professed a hope in Christ at an early age with Pleasant
Chapel A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. Eddie Hill.
Mike attended school and graduated from Bastrop High
School. He was one of few black quarterbacks that played for
Bastrop Bears.
In his work life, Mike was a very quick learner and had multiple
skills in cement, carpentry, and as a truck driver. You name it,
and he could do it. He worked with many companies that took
him across Texas.
His parents preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his
memories, son, Lance Jones (Austin) and one daughter,
Courtney Jones. His siblings, Virgil Waites, Dwight Benford,
Wade Taylor (Plonnie), Deborah Gipson (Derwin), Stanley
Jones (Rose), Brenda, Paula, and Shirley Jones and a host of
nieces and nephews, and family and friends. He had a special
bond with Donnie Pugh, cousin-brother and Eric Calloway,
friend-brother.
