After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, Mitchell Lynn Gipson died September 14, 2022 at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1956, in Taylor, TX, the son of John Willie Gipson Jr. and Dorthey Sue Gipson (Mitchell).
Mitchell was dedicated to the achievement of excellence in every aspect of his life. As a loving family man, Mitchell instilled solid core values and an impeccable work ethic in all of his children. He will be remembered for his strong, commanding presence and unshakeable sense of pride.
After graduating from Taylor High School in 1975, Mitchell worked construction with his stepfather, the late Sterling Simms (II). On the weekends during the 80’s he could be found at the Essence Club and later the Sea Breeze under the pseudonym DJ Spanky. In May of 1983 he started his lifelong career with Abbott Labs, where he worked until his death.
Mitchell is preceded in death by his parents; sister Janice Gipson, brother Ronald Gipson and grandson Silas Burnett. He is survived by his wife Loria Ann Gipson; sons, Keithon and DeLorean Gipson(Christina), Antonio(Angie) and Trammell Fitzgerald(Amanda); daughters, Ashley Burnett(Adrian) and Brittany Gallows(Quentin); sisters, Cynethia Bell, Rhonda Conner, June Greene, Rubye Gipson, Deanna Gipson Andrea Harper, and Regina Lishey; brothers Reginald, Kenneth, Derwin, John W (III) Gipson and Sterling Simms (III); 14 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews
