Obituary

Patrick Leon Barnett was born to Sammie and Lillie Barnett on a hot summer day on June 30, 1967 at home. He professed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church under the pastoral care of Rev. C. A. Williams. Pat regularly attended Sunday school and was active in the Youth activities.

There are many words to describe Patrick. The words that quickly come to mind are fun-loving, infectious smile, and full of athletic potential. His “superstar” reputation always preceded him; so much so that people often called him by his full name, “Pat Barnett,” upon sight. If you knew Pat, you know.

Pat possessed an easy-going attitude that drew people to him. He was a big kid at heart and people loved him for it. His ability to joke was a trademark. His radiant spirit was beloved by his daughters, siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He could make any situation a fun one and never took himself too seriously.

Pat’s smile lit up every space. When Pat entered a room, people noticed. His big grin, charming ways, and glint in his eyes always made him the center of attention. Pat was the “neighborhood star.” He was everyone’s friend and people relished his presence. From the community center to the boat dock, and baseball park, when “Pat Barnett” arrived, the fun started.

The only thing on par with his personality was his athleticism. “Pat Barnett” could do it all- football, basketball, track, and baseball! He was “the man,” but always a team player who uplifted those around him. As a teenager, he competed and won the local Punt, Pass, and Kick Contest held in cities across the U.S. His athletic ability garnered many accolades such as BHS Boys Most Valuable Player of the Year in 1984. Upon his graduation from Bastrop High School in 1985, he was awarded a baseball scholarship to Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas from 1985- 1987. If you knew Pat, you know.

After college, Pat was united in Holy Matrimony to Lori Flanagan and to this union two beautiful daughters were born. During this time, Pat also enlisted and served in the Armed Services of the United States where he fought for his country in the Desert Storm war. He was a disabled veteran for the remainder of his life.

On the early morning of November 8, 2022, Pat was called into eternal rest. He leaves to cherish is memories, three daughters, Raven Kiara Barnett, Los Angeles California, Alexis Breon(Patrick Thompson), Baton Rouge, LA, and Stephanie Hunter, Suffolk, VA.
