Peggy Jones-Coleman Obituary

Peggy Jones Coleman was born to Isiah and Pauline (Gentry) Thomas on January 1, 1948, in Bastrop County. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul A. M. E. Church. She completed her high school studies and continued her education at Central Texas College.  Peggy spent her career and later retired from the Internal Revenue Service in Austin, Texas.

Sister Coleman was affectionally known as “Mama Jackie, “Aunt Jackie”, and “Grandma Jackie” by those who were close and loved her, even if they weren’t blood relations. The most important thing to her was helping others.  Gatherings held at her house consisted of family, friends, and a lot of food that shared by the community.  Everyone was always treated as family and welcome, no matter what the occasion was.  Sister Coleman loved traveling and playing bingo in Las Vegas with her travel sisters (Emma, Diane, Myrtle).  She would hunt down family members to go fishing with her on a sunny day, enjoyed working in her garden, and watching her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.  Sister Coleman was a happy person that made everyone around her smile.

Throughout her life, Sister Coleman was active in church and a current member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Smithville, Texas.  She was an active member of the choir.  She loved volunteering with her granddaughter Ni’Asia at Born Again Emporium on Saturdays.

Sister Coleman was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.  She was the Worthy Matron of the Naomi Chapter 75 in Smithville, Texas.  She obtained multiple degrees including Queen of the South, Exalted Degree, Lady Knight Degree, Shrine, and Rose of the Seven Seals.  Sister Coleman was an active member who enjoyed volunteering at nursing homes and donating her time at bake sales.

Sister Coleman is proceeded in death by her Husband, Carl Coleman; Father, Mr. Isiah Thomas; Mother, Pauline (Gentry) Thomas; Brothers, Elray Jones, Clarence Thomas, and Frank Thomas Jr; Sisters, Helen Johnson, Pearline Roland, Ruby Jean Williamson, Mildred Neal, and Willie Mae Richardson.
