Ponie Jones Jr.

Ponie Jones Jr. was born August 22, 1928 to Ponie and Ellen Williams Jones.  He was the first of eleven children; seven of his siblings preceded him in death, along with his parents.

He was known for his expertise of concrete foundations for homes and businesses within Bastrop and surrounding areas.  “No job is too small or large” was his motto; from steps and ramps at Paul Quinn to business foundations like Grienbeck Furniture.  He was  very soft-hearted especially when it came to his family, a very down to earth person in more ways than one.  He looked forward to spring to plant vegetables and melons and year round cooking his favorite meals.

It was springtime in 1994, when he renewed his faith in Christ and joined Paul Quinn A.M.E. Church.

And approaching spring when he married Pauline Taylor in 1959.  To this union six children were born Deborah (Derwin), Stanley (Rose), Brenda, Michael, Paula, and Shirley.  In addition, his step-sons Virgil Waites (Laura) of Oakton, VA., Dwight Benford of Georgetown, TX, Wade Taylor (Plonnie) of Elgin, TX.  His wife preceded him in death (2015).

He leaves to cherish his memory 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.  Also two sisters Mary Burton of Dallas, TX and Ellen Burnett of Austin, TX; one brother Leslie Jones (Margaret) of Austin, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
