Hickey Lee McCook, Sr. died peacefully in his home on June 7, 2017 in Smithville, Texas at the age of 70.
He is survived by his sons Hickey, Leroy “Hawk”, Wayne, Max, Hickey L., Michael, John and daughters Wilma, Rhonda, Derinda, and Thamica “Mica”. He is also survived by his brothers Roy, Carl, Charles, Delma, Marvin and sisters Daisy, Harriet, and Carletta. Lastly, he is survived by his sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hickey was a good man with a contagious laugh. He loved to tell stories about his life, and he told them with such animation that it felt as if you were there witnessing the action in real life. He gave advice to anyone who needed it and did his best to make sure that those around him were happy. He was a mechanic by trade and a proclaimed "Car Whisperer". If your car wouldn't start, or if you heard a funny clunking noise, he could diagnose the problem simply by leaning in and listening to the engine.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leroy McCook and Willie Mae Richardson; and his brother Willie Phil. He is also preceded in death by his sisters-in-law Evelyn and Charlotte.
Hickey was and always will be a charismatic and positive soul who lit up every room that he entered. We are at a loss for words, and the world lost a great soul, but God definitely gained an angel.
